Mental Health in France

Children in France are most always covered by their parent’s health insurance. All residents are covered by the National Health Insurance, which is the French system of social security. The amount of money that insurance costs is based on the household income. The cost is around 8% of a households income. Only 1% of residents were uninsured. (Delamare, p. 5).

Research done in Paris, France showed qualitative and quantitative results regarding the prevalence of mental health issues between different socio-demographics. This study found that in the 19th borough, around 25% of people under 21 years old have a history of mental health issues. But, in the 20th borough, which has a higher SES than the 19th, only 12.5% of the population up to 65 years old have a history of mental health issues. From this study, I can assume there is a correlation with SES and mental health issues (Nakamura, p. 413).
